19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet rescued four early chances in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
