Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident rendered him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
